With the metaverse and the virtual domain becoming more and more important, Mercedes got their hands dirty in creating a purely virtual showcar.

The production process of a car is a tedious and laborious sequence of methodical events that requires the collaboration of engineers, designers and multidisciplinary teams to bring it to life. Creating something for the virtual world is a little different. Creativity can dominate as a designer can have carte blanche over the whole process, creating something truly left-handed. Safety regulations can be ignored while engineering and production constraints do not exist.

Mercedes-Benz Design Director Gorden Wagener originally teased the brand’s first all-virtual showcar on his personal Instagram profile a few days ago. Her overall aesthetic was vague as she was draped in a blanket that vaguely displays the aesthetic underneath. However, the virtual show car has since been revealed and from what we can decipher it still sports the signature rectangular grille and appears to have the proportions of a coupe. In the center of the grille is an illuminated Mercedes emblem that shines through the translucent material. virtual domain

The model created for the virtual world seems to have all four wheels integrated into the body. We don’t know exactly how it would work, but since the engineering constraints don’t exist, it doesn’t really matter.

Based on the hashtags Wagener used in the social media post’s caption, he was to be in League of Legends which has just been confirmed. The game series will have its 2022 World Championship between September 29 and November 5, which coincides with the launch of the model.

The game uses vehicles and the latest Mercedes virtual kingdom will very logically be presented in the world championship as a selectable model. Whatever the outcome, these virtual concepts may dictate the future of how vehicles look, so it’s worth paying attention to.

Bentley has also expanded the availability of the hybrid powertrain when it returns, making it available not only on the standard Bentayga, but also on the S model introduced last year, as well as the new Azure version for 2023. At the time of As of this writing, it’s unclear whether extended wheelbase versions of the Bentayga will also be offered with electrification.

The S and Azure models serve very different purposes. Compared to the standard Bentayga, the sporty S comes with a stiffer suspension thanks to a 15% increase in shock absorber stiffness, a louder exhaust and a modified setting of the stability control system to make it more dynamic. . Conversely, the Azure prioritizes comfort with standard 22-way adjustable heated and ventilated front seats and 15 interior upholstery color choices to deliver a personalized and serene cabin experience.

The fact that these two models can share the same powertrain speaks to the versatility offered by electrification. The torque from the electric motor can be used to make the vehicle more exhilarating or to start it off smoothly and quietly to provide a feeling of luxury.

The Bentayga Hybrid will be available to order from this fall, with deliveries starting in spring 2023.

Edmunds says

Even in ultra-luxury SUVs, efficiency and lower emissions can be priorities and we’re glad to see the Bentayga again offering a plug-in hybrid.

These days, every automaker builds SUVs because they are the vehicles the market demands. The boom has seen traditional sports and luxury brands join the party with SUV nameplates. The electric vehicle segment is no exception and You’re here is leading the way with performance all-electric SUV offerings in its burgeoning lineup. They introduced the smaller Model Y in 2020 to join their flagship crossover, the Model X.

It didn’t take long for the Tesla Model Y to become one of the best-selling SUVs. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is optimistic about the Model Y and predicts it will soon become the best-selling vehicle from a revenue standpoint. But even with the high demand for the vehicle, there is a long reservation queue and you have to wait months before you can get your hands on a new Tesla. This is an opportunity to get used examples. There are indisputable downsides to buying used electric vehicles, such as depleted battery capacities. But there are positives, and here’s why you should buy a used Tesla Model Y.

Tesla quotes four weeks to eight months before delivery of some of its models from the date of reservation. That’s quite a long wait, and opting for a used Tesla Model Y offers a convenient option with immediate availability. Additionally, Tesla has a used car program that sells used vehicles that have passed a 145-point inspection.

One caveat is that used Model Y units currently cost more than new ones. You can blame the long wait times and supply shortfalls due to the global shortage of automotive chips. It makes more sense to wait for a new car, but buying a used Tesla Model Y will save you time if urgency is paramount.

9 Used Tesla Model Y cars are getting the latest fully self-driving upgrades

Tesla is constantly innovating, so you’ll find the latest advanced hardware missing on a vehicle from two years ago. But you can trust Tesla thinks far enough to make relatively old vehicles capable. Plus, they provide over-the-air software updates on older cars, ensuring your Model Y will stay up to date.

Additionally, Tesla is offering a free Full Self-Driving Computer Upgrade to those who have purchased FSD capability and have the Autopilot 2.0 or 2.5 computer.

8 Most used Y models have low mileage on the clock

Batteries are the biggest concern with used electric vehicles, as they are quite expensive to replace when they wear out. But Tesla has great confidence in its batteries and claims that with 200,000 km on the clock, the battery should retain 90% of its original capacity. If it’s anything close to that mark, then you’re getting great value and have a chance of picking up a used Model Y in great shape.

Additionally, most Model Y examples for sale have had low mileage. A peak on Edmunds reveals more than fifty 2020 units with less than 50,000 miles on the odometer, some with as little as 3,000 miles.

seven Tesla Model Ys comes with a long battery and drive unit warranty

Another advantage of buying a used Tesla Model Y is its long battery and drive unit warranty. The new Performance finishers come with eight-year or 120,000-mile warranty with a minimum of 70% battery capacity retention throughout the warranty period. It’s quite impressive to see that 2020 models purchased three years ago still have at least five years of coverage. That’s more than some automakers offer with their new models.

Also, if you buy a used Tesla Model Y from Tesla, they offer additional coverage on top of the vehicle’s remaining base warranty. From the date of delivery, you get a one-year or 10,000-mile used vehicle warranty.

6 A used Tesla Model Y is a practical EV option

The Tesla Model Y is a crossover, so practicality is beyond doubt. It sits between the Model 3 and the larger Model X and is one of the most practical electric cars you can buy. It has more space than the Model 3 while still being a compact option for the Model X.

The car comfortably seats five adults, making it a great option for a small family. Plus, you can fold down the rear seats for extra cargo space. The absence of transmission, engine and gas tank creates more space for the interior and the flat floor gives plenty of headroom. But older models lack the seven-seat option found on newer units.

5 A Used Tesla Model Y Still Offers Great Performance

The Model Y comes in a chunky package, but the weight doesn’t hamper performance, especially with the Performance package. The base 2020 Model Y comes with 384 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, helping it achieve an impressive 4.6-second sprint from zero to 60 mph.

The 2020 Model Y Performance version comes with a spoiler, rear engine swap and tuning, boosting power to 456 hp and 497 lb-ft of torque. This results in rapid acceleration with a launch to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

4 Used Tesla Model Y cars come with a sleek, minimalist interior

Unlike a conventional gasoline vehicle, the Model Y has no instrument cluster, gauges, buttons, vents and dials, resulting in a clean, sleek and uniquely minimalist cockpit. There’s just a steering wheel with only two buttons and a 15-inch touchscreen housing all the main controls. Sleek wood trim on the dash adds taste and the driver sits high with a commanding view of the road ahead.

The rest of the cabin features premium vegan leatherette materials on comfortable, spacious and supportive seats. Plus, thanks to the electric powertrain, you get an extremely quiet cabin experience.

3 The Model Y is a great all-wheel-drive EV option

Both the standard Performance and Long Range versions of the Model Y come with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. These are two ultra-responsive, independent motors with digitally controlled torque transmission to the front and rear wheels, resulting in superior handling, traction and ride stability.

These combinations make the Model Y a capable ride in rain, mud, snow or off-road conditions. Plus, it has an off-road assist feature to improve traction on rough and soft surfaces. And, we’ve seen plenty of owners take their Model Y custom cars off-road.

2 Wide availability of booster stations

Range anxiety is one of the main reasons many avoid buying electric vehicles, let alone used units. But Tesla is trying to ease that angst by offering supercharging stations that are the new gas stations of the future. Direct 480-volt fast-charging technology can fill up to 162 miles of range in about 15 minutes in the Model Y.

Tesla has more 35,000 global superchargers conveniently located on popular roads and close to essential amenities like restaurants, restrooms and shops.

1 Used Tesla Model Ys Offers a Five-Star Safety Rating

Tesla doesn’t take safety lightly and designs its cars to be the safest in the world. They have raised the bar for car safety, often earning near-perfect scores across all rating segments.

Features such as rigid structure, front impact protection and low center of gravity have helped the Model Y to a 5-star NHTSA rating in each category and subcategory. Also, he received a Top Safety Pick+ Award from the IIHS, the highest possible security rating from the independent organization.

Mercedes-Benz produces some of the most sought-after automobiles on the planet. Most people in the world – even those who know nothing about cars – dream of one day owning a Mercedes, especially to show off and look through the three-pointed star on the hood. Unfortunately, some models spent more time in the shop than being exhibited.

Mercedes-Benz has long been a premium automaker. After all, the very first car ever built was a Benz. Since then, the brand has built its reputation around the idea of powerful and influential people driving their cars, from movie stars and famous singers to captains of industry and even country leaders. More recently, a Mercedes-Benz was even used to drive Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin from her favorite summer residence after her death. That being said, Mercedes-Benz has had a few hiccups in its history, including one as recent as 2015.

Thus, Mercedes-Benz is globally known as a manufacturer of high-end and luxurious vehicles that is sometimes the envy of passers-by, but has also had spots on a relatively clean reputation. With that, here are ten Used vehicles from Mercedes-Benz you should probably avoid like it’s the plague.

ten W211 E350

The W211 generation of Mercedes-Benz E-Class was among the best in the entire range. It was spacious, luxurious, comfortable and smooth – everything one desires in a mid-size German executive sedan. Unfortunately, there were a few issues.

The mid-range V6-powered version suffered from fuel delivery issues that required owners to replace almost all of the hoses and pumps used to supply fuel to the engine. Fortunately, this problem only affected 2006 model year cars and Mercedes quickly fixed the problem, leaving the last W211 The E-Class trims will become one of the best premium cars.

9 W221 S550

The W221 The S-Class was a complete reversal of the W220 preceding it. It was better styled, had more intuitive technology and was more reliable in the long run – and short term. Unfortunately, the 2007 S550 model suffered from a curious software glitch that caused it to randomly switch to Limp mode.

Drivers reported that the car drove brilliantly without any issues, before suddenly breaking down. Mercedes’ response was to replace the ECU – at great expense to the owner – which largely solved the problem. Owners also reported premature wear to the engine’s balance shaft, which led to loose timing chain and broken valves.

8 W205 C300

More recently, the 2015 C300 has had a host of issues not related to the transmission, but rather to the fit and finish of interior and exterior parts. Some owners have reported that their sunroofs flew off the car at high speed, resulting in damage. Mercedes-Benz blamed poor adhesive sealant application and quickly corrected the problem.

Other issues include random explosion of airbag inflators and steering lock nut failure, both leading to unnecessary accidents. The C300 also suffered from a lack of pace as the turbocharged 4-cylinder struggled to haul the nearly 3,700 lb coupe. It was definitely one of the least reliable Mercedes-Benz models of recent years.

seven W220 S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the technology and luxury leader in the more affordable executive sedan market, below the Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Phantom. The W220 The S-Class introduced keyless entry and start, air suspension with multiple modes, radar-assisted adaptive cruise control, and ventilated seats.

As with most luxury cars, the W220 was heavily criticized for its options, which easily added tens of thousands of dollars to the price of the car. As an example, all-wheel drive was a $2,200 option that didn’t really offer any additional driving feel. The biggest problem with the W220 is the fact that repairs and maintenance of the model are extremely expensive and that much of the electronics are prone to breakage – which makes the W220 one of the worst used options on the market.

6 W168 A class

The W168 The A-Class was Mercedes-Benz’s way of entering the hatchback market to steal sales from the Ford Focus and Renault Megane. The W168 was another heavily criticized Mercedes model and was described as the “depreciation” of the Mercedes brand.

The W168 failed the infamous “elk test” where a car swerves to dodge an imaginary elk or moose. The A-Class flipped on its side and Mercedes-Benz denied the problem. Funnily enough, they stopped production of the A-Class for three months and recalled all those sold to fit the ESC and readjust the suspension, which solved the problem.

5 W163 ML-class

The Mercedes-Benz ML-Class was the first real attempt to build a more luxurious SUV – originally designed to replace the aging G-Class. The ML was a collaboration between Mercedes and Mitsubishi and as a means of gaining additional publicity Mercedes put the ML in the second installment of the dinosaur movie franchise, jurassic park.

The W163 ML was a relatively solid vehicle, achieving what it set out to do – except replace the G-Class. Unfortunately it was quite an expensive vehicle to maintain, and in several UK surveys it has been named the least user-friendly for day-to-day living.

4 Mercedes Vaneo

The Mercedes-Benz Vaneo is what happens when a first-generation A-Class sedan and a Vito van are mixed together. It’s officially called a minivan – even with the “van” in its name – and has received surprisingly good reviews.

The Vaneo only had 4-cylinder engines to choose from – all underpowered, and it really wasn’t the best looking Mercedes model to come out of Stuttgart. Still, the Vaneo is a practical vehicle for families and even had the option of a sliding boot floor for easy access. As a car driver, we would probably ignore it.

3 X164 GL-Class

The GL-Class was a larger version of the ML-Class, but it also featured a more upscale and luxurious demeanor. Unfortunately, this was slightly lost during the actual design. First, the X164 GL was way too big for the time and drove them anywhere, but American cities proved pretty boring – as James May proved when he drove one through London at rush hour.

The GL was a bit of a disappointment in the luxury department. While it came standard with leather seats, air suspension and automatic climate control, it was still a far cry from the vehicles it was trying to outperform. The GL and GLS models that followed did – and still do – a much better job, but still don’t quite compete with the best in terms of build quality and exclusivity.

2 W210 E-Class

The W210 The E-Class was the first Mercedes-Benz model to be accused of “depreciation”. It was the first model where accountants were in charge of construction, rather than engineers, which resulted in cost reductions here and there.

The W210 had a whole host of issues from this ‘downsizing’ including harmonic balancer pulley failure, faulty blower motor governor, failing front stabilizer bar drop links, lifts -defective windows, the leaking cylinder head gasket and the prematurely wearing differential bushing. The model also had huge corrosion problems because the paint used was water-based and cheaper.

1 X-class

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class is one of the least successful models in the company’s history. The German giant wanted to enter the European van market to steal sales of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and VW Amarok. Unfortunately, instead of designing and building a vehicle from scratch or modifying one of their own designs, they turned to Nissan.

They used Navara’s popular platform and modified the bodywork and interior to reflect the brand’s premium look. The end result was an overpriced truck with worse ergonomics than the Nissan it was based on. Mercedes added its own V6 turbo diesel in the vehicle, but it was too little too late. The X-Class was only in production between 2017 and 2020, when it was discontinued. Competition is always a better option anyway.

BEIJING — Chinese electric car start-up Xpeng has launched its most expensive car yet, marking the company’s foray into a higher price range.

Shares of the automaker briefly fell more than 15% in Hong Kong trading on Thursday.

On Wednesday evening, Xpeng announced that its new car, the G9 SUV, will cost between 309,900 yuan ($44,270) and 469,000 yuan. Deliveries are expected to begin in China in October, the company said.

The price range makes Xpeng’s latest car generally cheaper than new SUV offerings this fall from Nio and Li Auto. Nio’s ES7 retails for 468,000 yuan to 548,000 yuan, while Li Auto’s Li 9 is priced at 459,800 yuan.

The G9 is also cheaper than Tesla’s Model Y, a midsize SUV that starts at 316,900 yuan.

However, the prices of previous cars from Xpeng were much lower.

The company’s best-selling to date, the P7 sedan, costs between 239,900 yuan and 387,900 yuan depending on range. The company’s other sedan, the P5, can be had for as low as 179,900 yuan.

Xpeng’s original SUV, which is now only available as an upgraded model called G3i, costs from 181,900 yuan to 201,900 yuan.

For comparison, in sedans, Nio sells for 328,000 yuan to 536,000 yuan. Tesla’s Model 3 starts at 279,900 yuan, after applicable subsidies.

BYD, the dominant local leader in China’s electric car market, is selling at an even lower price range. The company’s popular Han sedan costs from 214,800 yuan, after subsidies, to 329,800 yuan.

In total, BYD’s Qin, Han and Dolphin cars were among the top five selling new-energy passenger cars in China in the first eight months of the year, according to the China Passenger Car Association. This list did not include SUVs.

Tesla’s Model 3 ranked sixth, while Xpeng’s P7 ranked 10th, according to association data.

One of Xpeng’s selling points is its driver assistance software. This week, the company announced that it was rolling out the latest version of the software – which covers urban situations in addition to highways – to select users in the city of Guangzhou in southern China.

As well as assisted driving software, the G9 offers fast battery charging and what Xpeng calls “an immersive 5D experience” in the car for watching movies and listening to music. The company claimed that after revealing this in-car experience in August, it received more than 20,000 pre-orders for the G9 within the first 24 hours of booking.

“We are very confident that this G9 will be a very popular SUV in its class,” said Brian Gu, president and honorary vice president of Xpeng, in an interview with CNBC’s Eunice Yoon this week.

“We believe the volume of the G9 next year will exceed what we achieved for the P7, making it one of our best-selling vehicles,” he said.

Tesla is reassessing how it sells electric cars in China, its second largest market, and is considering closing some showrooms at flashy malls in cities like Beijing where traffic has plunged during Covid restrictions, two said people aware of the plans.

The change would put more emphasis on stores in less expensive suburbs that can also carry out repairs as the company strives to meet Elon Musk’s goal of improving service for existing customers, many of whom complained of long delays, they said.

As part of the push, Tesla is looking to hire more technicians and other personnel for service jobs in China, one of the people said. Tesla’s China recruitment website showed more than 300 service vacancies on Thursday.

Musk said on Twitter last week, in response to a Tesla owner in Texas who complained about waiting a month to get his vehicle repaired, that he had made “Tesla service improvement for the make awesome” a top priority.

Unlike traditional automakers, Tesla has all of its own stores, rather than relying on dealerships. She also sells her cars online. This gave it more leeway to adjust a retail strategy initially modeled after Apple stores.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The U.S. automaker sold 400,000 China-made Model 3 and Model Y cars in the first eight months of the year, with 60 percent sold locally, according to the China Passenger Car Association. It was 67% more than a year ago.

Tesla’s shift in approach to China, where it has become the second-biggest electric vehicle brand behind BYD, would reflect recognition that it needs to build customer loyalty now that it has established its brand in the world’s biggest auto market. world, said one analyst.

“There is no need to open showrooms in expensive malls, especially when the repair business has become lucrative, said Yale Zhang, managing director of Shanghai-based consultancy Automotive Foresight.

“It makes more sense to keep just one or two showrooms downtown to maintain brand positioning, but to move more to the suburbs.”

Tesla opened its first store in central Beijing in 2013 and now has more than 200 outlets across the country displaying models and holding test drives for potential buyers.

However, more than half of the stores do not offer maintenance services since they are located in high-rent locations where space is limited. This includes Tesla’s first store in Beijing and its first store in Shanghai.

More than half of Tesla’s showrooms in seven of China’s biggest cities, including Shenzhen and Chengdu, are now in city centers, according to a Reuters tally based on Tesla’s China website.

Like other companies, Tesla has seen traffic in its stores severely disrupted by China’s strict approach to containing COVID-19, which has involved closures of varying scope and duration, including in Shanghai where it owns a factory.

Reuters could not determine how many urban showrooms Tesla planned to close, how many new locations in fast-growing suburbs could be opened, or what the cost of the change would be.

The automaker has been the target of a series of customer complaints and lawsuits in China, including a high-profile case last year that saw a disgruntled owner climb over a Tesla at the auto show in China. Shanghai to protest the company’s handling of its complaints about faulty brakes. .

The incident received significant attention in China and prompted state media to criticize the company.

Tesla later apologized to Chinese consumers for not handling complaints in a timely manner and pledged to review its service operations.

Tesla’s rivals in China have taken a mixed approach to retail distribution. Besides self-managed stores, BYD and Xpeng also rely on third-party resellers.

Nio, like Tesla, has a network of high-level urban stores in China. He also invested in door-to-door service, sending workers, many of whom were hired from the hospitality industry, to pick up cars for repair and drop them off when the work was complete.

Hyundai Genesis has been one of the most sought-after full-size luxury sedans on the market, offering exceptional amenities. The comfortable ride, sporty looks, luxury feel and high reliability trends make this car a pleasure to drive and one of the most popular sedans on the market.

That said, every vehicle has its ups and downs, and this Korean car is no exception; it has a few hiccups along the way. So, let’s go into more details and see how reliable this is. hyundai is and what you can expect from his worst years.

The 2012 and 2015 Genesis model years cause the most problems

According to data recorded on the CarComplaints website, although the 2015 Genesis has the highest number of complaints, the 2012 model year is dubbed the worst Hyundai Genesis due to factors such as high repair costs and low mileage issues.

Engine issues are the main issues for the 2012 model year. Many reports show the engine stalling or shutting off while driving. This early issue can cause fatal accidents or adverse incidents if left unaddressed. “While turning right at very low speed, the car stops and I have no control.

The steering went, the brakes don’t work, and finally I pulled it to a stop on the side of the road and put it in park, and I pressed the crank button, and it turn on right away. So I decided to ask Google about it, and I found all these complaints. I was afraid of the brothel. Luckily there was no one behind me at that time. It even scares me to drive it now. Reported one owner. The company has not issued any specific remedy as it remains a big concern for drivers.

Additionally, this model also suffers from excessive oil consumption in the engine department. This is not an uncommon problem, but it can still cause major discomfort for owners.

Another major and dangerous issue with this model year is brake malfunction. Several owners have solved the problem by replacing the ABS. This is an expensive procedure and often costs around $2800 to complete.

The 2015 model year suffers from significant electrical issues. Reports show the engine failing to start, leaving owners in the lurch. This happens quite early and is usually under the 30,000 mark and causes big upheaval for owners.

This model year also welcomes a variety of interior issues. Radio not working properly, rear view camera malfunction, GPS malfunction and ventilation issues are some of the prominent interior dilemmas.

As for the engine department of this model, it has been reported that there is a harsh acceleration and a jerking action felt by drivers. “I was coasting to a red light at about 30 MPH when suddenly I heard a loud noise and then a violent jolt as if I had been hit from behind. I immediately looked in the rearview mirror and saw no cars around me. There is no data available on how to fix this problem.

Typically, Hyundai Genesis shows numbers between 180,000 and 200,000 miles on the odometer. It is important to know that these numbers are subject to change depending on how you maintain your vehicle, as numbers over the 200,000 mile mark have been recorded. You can expect 12 to 14 years of driving experience with a Hyundai Genesis.

It is crucial to follow the company’s suggested maintenance procedures to achieve the car’s maximum potential. Here are some of the essential steps in maintaining a Hyundai Genesis:

  • At 7,500 miles: change oil and filter, rotate tires, inspect belts, brakes and hoses, and inspect for fluid leaks
  • At 30,000 miles: Replace engine air filter, cabin air filter, brake fluid, engine coolant, transmission fluid, spark plugs, fuel filter and brake pads
  • At 60,000 miles: replace differential fluid, timing belt, tires and drive belt
  • At 90,000 miles: Replace damper/spacer and engine coolant hose

The average cost to maintain a Hyundai Genesis year-round is $583 and ranks among the highest sedans with a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5.

The Ford Maverick pickup truck sold in the United States is based on the foundations of the Focus hatchback and the Escape SUV, with the practicality of the double cab, the fuel economy of small cars and the comfort of passenger cars. tourism. Now a senior executive has confirmed he is being considered for Australia.

The Ford Maverick 2022 – a slightly smaller but far more economical double-cab pickup than the Ford Ranger – has been considered and, for now, ruled out for Australia, even though ute sales are at record highs locally.

Dianne Craig, Ford’s boss of international markets – including Australia – told media at the Detroit auto show overnight that the Maverick was under consideration for the local market.

However, for now, it’s only made in left-hand drive – and is a sell-out success with long lead times and large order banks.

Ford Australia largely depends on the success of just two models: the Ford Ranger ute and the four-wheel-drive Everest account for between 70 and 80 percent of the company’s local sales.

Given Ford Australia’s limited success with passenger cars and most SUVs, the Ford Maverick could be the third vehicle in the local lineup to help support the business.

The Ford Maverick has found widespread appeal in the United States for car buyers who want the practicality of a ute but don’t need heavy equipment or towing capacity – and prefer fuel economy and dynamics. driving characteristics similar to those of a car.

The Ford Maverick is powered by a 2.5-liter engine with a hybrid system and front-wheel drive in entry-level models – or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to front or all-wheel drive and a eight-speed automatic transmission. transmission in more expensive model categories.

It can carry around 650kg in the ute bed (compared to a 1000kg payload for many heavy utes) and tow up to 1800kg (compared to up to 3500kg on vehicles such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux ).

Despite being based on the stretched underpinnings of the Ford Focus hatchback and Ford Escape SUV, the Ford Maverick is only 30cm shorter than a Ford Ranger and has a large cargo hold.

When asked if there were any plans to consider a right-hand-drive version of the Ford Maverick, Ford’s head of international markets, Dianne Craig, said: “We’ve looked at it. And so that’s beyond what I can tell you at this point.

When asked for more information, the Ford executive said the factory-backed right-hand drive conversion program planned for the full-size F-150 “could really open up some possibilities for us.”

“I think we have to crack the code for this one first, and we’re very happy with the partner we’ve chosen (with the Ford F-150 conversion). So stay tuned.”

However, since the Ford Maverick is a car-based vehicle, it would be more expensive to retrofit it to right-hand drive, which would likely make the vehicle more expensive than a Ford Ranger.

At full price, a top left-hand drive Ford Maverick in the US costs the equivalent of $50,000 in Australian currency.

However, an Australian conversion program would push the price past $70,000, making it unprofitable to complete and inaccessible to purchase.

It’s possible that Ford is considering a factory-built right-hand-drive version midway through the Maverick model’s cycle – a task made possible given that it’s based on the ambidextrous Focus and Escape model.

However, for now, Ford is keeping a low profile and would not answer any further questions about the Maverick.
