Consumer Reports Best Muscle Car Is Also The Most Expensive
When people go to buy a car, one of the main things people look at is the price because most people want to get the lowest prices for a car. However, sometimes the best car in the segment is also the most expensive car, and people will just have to pay for the quality. When it comes to muscle cars, that’s exactly the case with the 2022 Dodge Charger, which is the most expensive muscle car option but also the best overall, according to Consumer Reports.
The 2022 Chevy Camaro is the cheapest muscle car option
According consumer reports, the cheapest muscle car right now is the Chevy Camaro. It starts at around $25,000, making it significantly cheaper than the next most affordable option, the Ford Mustang. This price will provide customers with a very good muscle car, as it is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 275 horsepower.
While this is a nice and efficient engine for the base model, muscle car fans are more likely to outfit the Camaro with one of the three engines Chevy currently offers. There’s a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 335 horsepower, and then there are two 6.2-liter V8 options. The first is atmospheric and develops 455 horsepower, while the other is supercharged and develops 650 horsepower.
The 2022 Dodge Charger is the most expensive, but it’s the best in its class
That said, the best muscle car right now is the most expensive, and that’s the Charger. It starts at $32,500, but can go up to around $75,000. It comes standard with a 292-hp 3.6-liter V6, and Dodge offers five other engine options for the car. There’s a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 300bhp, and then there are four different V8 options.
To dodge offers a 5.7-liter V8 developing 370 horsepower, a 6.4-liter V8 developing 485 horsepower and two 6.2-liter V8s. As with the Chevy Camaro, there is a naturally aspirated and a supercharged version of this 6.2-liter V8. The naturally aspirated option gets 717 hp, while the supercharged V8 gets 797 hp. This ridiculously powerful Hellcat engine will allow the Charger to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and top out at 203 mph.
Powerful engines are the most important thing about a muscle car, but that’s not the only reason the Charger is the top-rated muscle car option. Consumer Reports also liked its comfort capabilities, as it has a quiet cabin and a “smooth ride.” In addition to that, this Dodge muscle car has nice and comfortable seats, which will give drivers and passengers a great experience in the car.
The 2022 Ford Mustang is the worst muscle car option
By comparison, the worst muscle car option right now is the Ford Mustang, according to Consumer Reports. It starts at around $27,000, making it much cheaper than the Charger but more expensive than the Camaro. The main reason Consumer Reports gave the Mustang a low score is its very poor reliability history.
Either way, the Mustang is powerful and it will also have plenty of engine options. It starts with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder making 310 horsepower, and Ford offers four other engine options. There’s another turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder, but it gets 330bhp instead. Then there are three V8 options, a 5.0-liter V8 that gets 460 hp, a 5.0-liter V8 that gets 480 hp, and a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that gets 760 hp.
