Despite fear from business groups at the start of the pandemic, there haven’t been too many Covid-related lawsuits filed in New Hampshire. But a lawsuit was filed against a car dealer in Nashua last month for allegedly firing a parts specialist for quarantine due to possible exposure to the virus.

In a lawsuit filed July 26 against MacMulkin Chevrolet Inc. in the U.S. District Court in Concord, parts specialist Matthew Carson of Merrimack alleges the car dealership violated a Covid law that prohibits a company from sanctioning a worker for taking time off due to the coronavirus. Carson also sued MacMulkin for violations of the Americans with Disability Act and the Family Medical Leave Act. MacMulkin, which employs about 120 workers, declined to comment on ongoing litigation.

Carson’s disability – torn cartilage in both knees and migraines – caused him to work intermittently, according to the complaint. Plus, he needed to take time off to care for his autistic son.

“In light of these absences, Caron often worked on his days off in order to make up for the time,” said the complaint, filed by Chad Hansen, of the Maine Employee Rights Group of Portland, Maine.

Caron also asked to be allowed to sit on stools while working, but was denied this accommodation because other employees were sitting too much.

Things came to a head when he was out of work in quarantine after contracting Covid for the second time. The first time he was exposed to another employee with Covid, and Carson had mild fevers, chills and breathing issues, the complaint said.

The second time happened after another worker he worked closely with quit his job because he had been exposed to a family member with Covid. Caron, who also had flu-like symptoms dating back to November 29, left work on December 1. Although his rapid Covid test was negative, his doctor ordered him to self-quarantine until December 17, the suit says. He was reportedly fired on December 9 due to “attendance issues”, shortly after being tested for Covid. According to the lawsuit, Carson told him he had to wait several days for the result, which the lawsuit did not disclose.

The lawsuit claims the dismissal violated the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act section of the Family First Coronavirus Relief Act, passed at the start of the pandemic.

The new trend that is paying off big is car flipping.

Dennis Wang bought a brand new Tesla five months ago. But the offer he recently received from a dealership was too good to pass up – $101,000. Wang paid $87,000 for his new Tesla in March.

“Absolutely mad! Breathtaking ! Wang said.

Eddie Gribust returned his Tesla for $5,000 more than he paid for it.

“For the past two years I’ve driven new cars and haven’t lost a dime on them, he said.

Typically, cars lose more than 20% of their value the first year on the road, according to Edmunds.com. But since the pandemic began, used car prices have actually risen 53%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Even basic vehicles like a Honda Civic or a Toyota Camry, these vehicles are worth more on the used market than on the new market,” said Ivan Drury, senior director of information at the shopping website. Edmunds cars.

Drury said there weren’t enough new cars for buyers to turn to used cars, “essentially raising the ceiling on the cost of used cars.”

“It’s going to be shock and awe!” he said of those trying to buy a basic used car. “You are virtually guaranteed at every price point to pay more and get less.”

But some automakers are starting to crack down. General Motors is warning buyers that warranties on its popular vehicles will expire if those cars are returned within the first 12 months. Tesla said it could “unilaterally cancel any orders we believe have been placed for resale.”

This is exactly what happened to Wang.

“Unfortunately, my order for Tesla was actually deleted,” Wang said.

In this economy, it’s a good idea to check your car’s value online, especially if you have a lease. It’s probably worth a lot more than you owe, which can give you a lot of bargaining power at the dealership or you can sell it and turn that equity into cash.

1. Asset

The FBI executed a search warrant Monday at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents, including classified documents, that may have been there. be brought when he left the White Loger. The former president was at Trump Tower in New York when the search warrant was executed. In February, the National Archives previously said at least 15 boxes of White House documents had been recovered from the complex, some of which were classified. Separately, photos apparently revealed Trump’s habit of flushing key White House documents down the toilet. The extraordinary decision to search the home of a former president comes as Trump’s legal troubles continue on multiple fronts. Trump is also expected to announce in the coming months that he will launch another White House bid in 2024.

2. Floods

Various parts of the United States are struggling with significant flood damage. Yellowstone National Park was inundated in mid-June, followed by torrential flooding in St. Louis and Kentucky – then this weekend there was flooding in California’s Death Valley. This deluge resulted in numerous landslides that buried cars and cut off roads, trapping around a thousand people inside the park. Forecasts show even more flooding is possible this week for southwestern and parts of eastern Kentucky, where many residents are still without power and water after flooding earlier this month. who killed at least 37 people. Meanwhile, in Seoul, South Korea, at least eight people were killed on Monday as record rainfall flooded homes, roads and subway stations.

3.Ukraine

Up to 80,000 Russians have been killed or injured during the war in Ukraine, according to Pentagon official Colin Kahl. The death toll is “remarkable”, Kahl said, considering that Russia “has not achieved any of Vladimir Putin’s goals” since invading Ukraine in February. On Monday, the Pentagon also announced that the United States had sent anti-radar missiles to Ukraine, marking the first time the Department of Defense admitted sending previously undisclosed weapons to help Ukrainian forces. Separately, Russia has notified the United States that it will temporarily suspend inspections under a key nuclear weapons treaty, which allows Russia and the United States to closely monitor the nuclear weapons of the ‘other. It comes as US authorities step up their campaign to seize valuable assets from Kremlin insiders.

4. Gas prices

The average cost of a gallon of gas is down nearly a dollar since peaking in June, giving drivers much-needed financial relief at the pump. But some analysts warn that low oil inventories will likely keep prices high. Besides Russia’s war with Ukraine and sanctions that have disrupted its oil exports, analysts say oil producers are showing an inability – and sometimes reluctance – to increase production. Oil companies in the United States are also reluctant to make big investments in the extraction and refining of fossil fuels as the current administration turns more to renewable energy. Gasoline prices play a major role in the fight against inflation, which financial experts say will likely continue until 2023.

5. Olivia Newton-John

Olivia Newton-John, the Australian singer and actress who charmed generations of viewers in the hit movie ‘Grease’, died on Monday, according to a statement from her husband. She was 73 years old. The singer revealed in September 2018 that she was battling cancer at the base of her spine. It was her third cancer diagnosis, following bouts of breast cancer in the early 90s and in 2017. Hollywood icons joined fans around the world in mourning the loss of Newton-John, including John Travolta who played his character’s love interest in “Grease.” He shared the following moving tribute on Instagram: “My dearest Olivia, you have made our lives so much better. It’s no secret that Hyundai has won numerous accolades in recent years for its rapid introduction of new models that showcase its commitment to electrification and connectivity.

These and other rapid innovations are positive for the automaker’s bottom line and reputation, but some wonder how dealerships can keep pace and manage efficient and profitable operations.

“We really want to partner with our resellers because when we go to mass adoption, (customers) are going to walk into resellers after doing their research online and they want to know…” Is that ok work for me? ‘ said Olabisi Boyle, a vice president of Hyundai Motor America. “(We regularly ask) ‘How do we work with our dealers when we meet with them to tell them that’s the criteria so you’re ready when we sell them?’

Boyle answered the dealer question after his keynote address at the Center for Automotive Research’s Annual Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, MI. Although she is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of Hyundai’s US vehicle lineup, leading long- and short-term planning, and overseeing market research, business analysis and pricing, she and her colleagues of management regularly exploring and discussing ideas with dealers.

This type of regular communication is crucial, allowing the automaker to gather insights into a number of vital areas of concern, including barriers to consumer adoption. Allowing leaders to work in a hybrid environment — part remote, part in-office — combined with cross-pollination across divisions ensures a unified message and dealer responses are known across the organization, she says.

This is especially important given changing consumer demographics. When dealers share their knowledge of buyer concerns and preferences with automaker leaders, it allows the company to form industry partnerships that meet market demands.

This type of communication has paid off in dealer enthusiasm and, of course, business success, Boyle says. Hyundai has won a series of awards and accolades from WardsAuto and others, including the World Car of the Year award, given to the Ioniq 5 BEV.

She expects that to continue to grow as the automaker rolls out its new models and strategies, including its try-before-you-buy program that Hyundai has piloted over the past six to nine months with what Boyle says they are “key dealers.”
“What we’ve found is that (customers want) to have a short-term car to try out,” Boyle says of the program in which customers pay a monthly fee for the car that includes insurance. , maintenance, roadside assistance and fully digital service. live. The duration of the agreement can vary from one month to three months or more.

She credits the dealership for the growing popularity of the program, which relies on Hyundai’s finance arm for capital.

“We work with dealerships so we can learn as we go through the (pilot) process before we fix it, Boyle says. “And now the conversion rate is increasing. Customers come back and say, “I like the Ioniq 5. I’m going to buy it. » »

As an investor, I enjoy maintaining a portfolio of world-class blue chip companies that reward me with dividends for owning their stocks and allow me to sleep soundly at night knowing that I own a small portion of a big company. But in a well-balanced portfolio, it’s also possible to add a smaller allocation of certain high-risk stocks that have the potential to increase your returns over time if they materialize.

Taking on a higher risk generally implies a higher potential return, as investors need to be properly compensated for the risk they take. Risk can take many forms – perhaps the company has worrying debt. Maybe his core business is in decline or the stock is trading at a nosebleed multiple.

Here are two high-risk, high-return stocks that have the potential to provide outsized returns for risk-tolerant investors as part of a well-balanced portfolio.

1. Carvana

carvana (CVNA 40.07%) is arguably the ultimate high-risk, high-reward stock. Shares of the internet-native auto dealership are down 86% year-to-date as rising interest rates and fears of a recession dampened market appetite for “historic stocks”. who do not make a profit. Moreover, many observers fear that it will live on borrowed time because it will not be able to service its high debt load.

Sounds like a lot of risk, right? He is. But here’s why the payoff is also potentially huge – Carvana is showing skyrocketing revenue and unit volume growth while establishing a strong footing in a $1 trillion end market.

Buying a used car is one of the average consumer’s least favorite experiences, probably on par with getting a root canal. The legacy used car industry is a massive market that is ripe for disruption. Carvana’s platform, which allows users to buy and sell vehicles online, certainly shakes it up.

The platform is easy to use (in my experience) and convenient as Carvana sends one of its trucks to pick up the vehicle from you (if you are the seller) and can deliver it right to your driveway (if you are the buyer). Users don’t have to go to a used car park or haggle with a salesman. Moreover, with more than 70,000 vehicles available on its platform, Carvana offers a selection far superior to what a buyer would get by going to their local dealership.

The company has already become the second largest used car dealership in the United States in just eight years of existence, so it’s clear that this model resonates with consumers. Additionally, Carvana has been growing both revenue and unit volume at a breakneck pace over the past few years. Carvana’s revenue was just under $2 billion in 2018, but grew to over $12.8 billion in 2021. The company sold 94,000 cars in 2018 and 425,000 in 2021 .

That revenue and unit growth is significant, but the bears are right that it means nothing if the company ultimately can’t turn a profit. But the good thing is that Carvana’s management team aren’t sitting in the sand – they are well aware of this and are working to slow down the company’s cash burn and prioritize positive cash flow. .

Carvana plans to reduce SG&A expenses, lower capital expenditures and improve the unit economics of every vehicle purchased and sold. The company has made steady progress on gross profit per unit over the past few years, rising from just $206 in 2015 to $4,537 in 2021.

Given what Carvana has accomplished over the past few years, there is reason to believe that it can figure it out and execute this plan, in which case the company would be able to not just survive, but thrive. It’s as risky and highly rewarding as it gets, and I’ve allocated a small portion of my overall portfolio to it, which isn’t more than I’m willing to lose.

2. Dutch Brothers

My second high-risk, high-return stock is dutch brothers (BROS 4.25%). As a recent IPO with big money and little debt, Dutch Bros isn’t high risk the way Carvana is and faces no existential threat. But the company is trading at a sky-high valuation of more than 90 times forward earnings in a market that has lost its appetite for these multiple-multiple stocks and will therefore punish them with a sell for any missteps, which is why the he stock is down nearly 50% since the start of the year. There’s still plenty of risk ahead, especially at a time when inflation and high gas prices seem like a headwind to demand.

But the potential reward here continues to be enticing. The West Coast-based coffee and energy drink supplier with names like Vampire Slayer and Double Rainbro is a hit with young consumers and growing its store count. Dutch Bros is expanding beyond its home base on the west coast as it seeks to reach its long-term goal of 4,000 locations nationwide.

Dutch Bros recently opened its first locations east of the Mississippi River in Tennessee, and if its popularity in the western United States translates to the east coast, there’s a huge market opportunity ahead. With around 600 locations now, there is a lot of execution risk and tastes may change over time. However, if Dutch Bros continues to execute its plan and becomes a household name or the next Starbucksearly investors will be rewarded for tolerating some risk.

For investors with a diversified portfolio who can handle some risk, the benefit of a few well-placed high-risk, high-reward positions in a portfolio can be significant.

Michael Byrne holds positions at Carvana Co. and Dutch Bros Inc. The Motley Fool holds positions and recommends Starbucks. The Motley Fool recommends the following options: Short Calls October 2022 at $85 on Starbucks. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.

Mercedes is launching a full range of electric vehicles that covers everything from small sedans to large SUVs. We already have their EQA, EQB, EQC and the top of the line EQS. Now that the new EQE has arrived, think of it as an E-Class sedan but purely electric.
The new EQE range starts at €85,980 and that price increases rapidly as you tick off the options list.
Two versions are available from launch, an EQE 350+ and an AME EQE 43 with a more powerful battery and motor.
My test car this week is the EQE 350+ AMG range.

So what does it look like?

Judging from my somewhat unscientific survey of those interested in the car during my tenure, opinion is somewhat divided on the looks. Sure, it looked very sleek, but many felt it lacked that “Mercedes” flair. I think the huge shiny plastic masked in the front doesn’t help her in the beauty contest. Nevertheless, others thought it looked good. I am not so sure. I would much prefer the styling of the current E-Class, for example.

How is it inside?

Many elements of the cabin will be familiar to anyone who’s been inside one of the latest Mercedes cars and that’s a good thing. It looks very good indeed and of course, despite the rather hard and cheap plastic used on the door pockets, the quality of everything else is spot on.

Ahead of the driver is a nice configurable digital instrument display with options including round analog-style digital instruments (one of the best on the market) and a huge 13-inch center touchscreen which I have to say is very intuitive to use and offers great features and graphics.

The new EQE features the latest innovations in automotive safety and luxury. The list is too long to include here, but highlights include the latest Mercedes version of MBUX, a full genuine leather interior (not ARTICO) as well as sophisticated collision avoidance and driver assistance systems.

Overall, the cabin is a pleasant place with beautifully styled sports seats with an ambient lighting strip that runs around their outer edge as well as over the door tops and dash. It’s really impressive and I love the illuminated turbine-style air vents. Just superb! As for space, its four seats are quite comfortable and five on the pressure. The boot is also a good size.

What’s under the hood?

I do not know ! It does not open. But humor aside, the EQE is powered by a 90kWh battery driving a 215kW electric motor that develops some 292bhp. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a single-speed automatic gearbox.

The EQE has the usual instantaneous torque we’ve come to expect from EVs and performance seems much quicker than its paper 6.4-second 0-60 mph time might suggest. Road tax is €120 for the year and although Mercedes claims a range of around 640km from 100% charge, in reality I managed to get closer to 525km which is d elsewhere excellent.

How is it to drive?

The huge weight of EVs really tends to dampen handling (compared to, say, an equivalent E-Class) and often compromise rideability. The EQE is no different, but I have to say it’s one of the best EVs to drive.

It’s responsive, handles well, and manages to conceal its massive bulk most of the time. On some rougher roads the suspension can hit the bump stops, but that was a rare occasion during my test. It’s super quiet and refined too. So overall I really enjoyed driving it!

What’s my verdict?

Quite simply, the new Mercedes EQE 350+ is in my opinion the best EV currently available bar none!

Sadly, at £85,000+ it will be out of reach for many and my AMG line test car with options capped at £106,404.

CNG vs LPG car: Automakers are now focusing more on CNG models. Maruti Suzuki has made preparations to put almost all of its models on CNG. After that, Hyundai also offers CNG models in all of its segments. There is a difference of about 70-80 thousand rupees in the price of the CNG model. Even after that, the demand for CNG model is increasing rapidly in the automotive market. The main reason for this is the price of gasoline and diesel. The cost of CNG is much lower than gasoline and diesel, and the mileage is very high. This is the reason why people also get CNG kits installed in their vehicles. However, many people also drive the car on LPG instead of CNG.

What is the difference between CNG and LPG? What is the difference between these two prices? Which is better between CNG and LPG in terms of mileage? Does LPG cause damage to the car? The answers to all these questions are known with the help of experts.

CNG and LPG prices
Approximately 14.2 kg of LPG comes in a domestic LPG cylinder. Now the cost of the cylinder has risen to Rs 1000. That is, the price of LPG per kg is around Rs 71. At the same time, if we talk about CNG, its price ranges from Rs 75 to Rs 90 per kg. Its price varies according to the cities of the country. As a result, LPG becomes cheaper than CNG. This is the reason why many people use LPG in petrol cars to save money.

Car mileage with CNG and LPG

, The CNG bottle used in the car has a capacity of approximately 10 kg. However, only up to 9 kg of CNG is used there. This is so that there is no pressure on the cylinder. Sometimes filling more CNG into the cylinder increases the risk of bursting. The number of kilometers driven by the CNG car also depends on the engine of the car. For example, the CNG model of Maruti Celeria gives a mileage of 35Km/Kg. That is to say, there are 9 kg of CNG in the cylinder, then it can travel 315 km.

Also Read- Confirm: New Maruti Brezza will be able to buy from June 30, features will be available in such a way that Nexon and Creta will fail

, Now let’s talk about the LPG bottle, it comes with 14.2 kg of LPG. Lots of people fix that household gas cylinder in the car. So some people use LPG in a CNG cylinder. However, even from LPG, the car mileage remains the same as CNG. The only difference is that if you use an LPG bottle, you will be able to travel about 490 km with its help. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday in Abuja confirmed the increasing use and importation of harsh substances in Nigeria.

Speaking at the inaugural Auto CEO Forum, sponsored by GSCL Transport Media Group, NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa said about one tonne of Colorado had been discovered in the past three years.

He said the auto sector remains key in the war on drug addiction, adding that collaboration was needed to clean up the sector.

Represented by a controller, Samuel Bashir Gadzama, the president observed that most imported drugs come from Canada via vehicles.

Noting that the trend, discovered in 2020 during the lockdown, is worrying, Marwa said some auto industry players are using the company as a cover to achieve their nefarious goals.

His words: “We focus on them. We have had cases where we have closed auto shops. There are cases where we have to investigate certain people.

“We are not after duty. We have two concerns. We’re either looking for the drug or the product.

Marwa said the agency has no direct business with the automotive industry outside of dealing with drug-related issues, adding that “it is necessary for players to support the campaign against drugs and understand related laws likely to affect their operations”.

Speaking at the event, organizers’ representative Frank Kintum admitted that Nigeria is going through a difficult phase economically, saying the automotive industry is one of the hardest hit.

“In recent years, many auto assembly plants registered by the federal government to rejuvenate the national economy a few years ago have closed, while the few still struggling have been forced to reduce their workforce, he said.
