Mazda Toyota Produces ‘Job 1’ Vehicle at $ 2.3 Billion Alabama Plant

MTM is now hiring more than 1,700 additional employees to join its existing workforce, potentially reaching as many as 4,000 when production is fully operational next year. Those interested in applying for open MTM positions can visit

The plant has the capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles per year, divided equally between the two nameplates.

“I am very proud of our team members and am excited to continue our hiring plan to complement our MTM family,” said Janette Hostettler, vice president of production at the Alabama plant.

“Our team members show a real commitment to safety and quality, and it’s a great day for them to see the Corolla Cross come out of our line ready to ship. “

MTM’s investment rose to $ 2.311 billion when parent companies announced a additional commitment of $ 830 million in summer 2020. The additional investment has enabled MTM to integrate more advanced technologies into its manufacturing processes.

Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, said MTM’s scale of operations and the network of orbiting suppliers are already beginning to transform northern Alabama.

Already, a dozen vendors and support companies have announced plans to launch operations in the region, which means 2,000 additional jobs and a combined investment exceeding $ 725 million.

“We are confident that the revolutionary collaboration between Mazda and Toyota will drive growth not only for businesses but also for northern Alabama for generations,” said Secretary Canfield.

Toyota announced plans to produce the all-new Corolla Cross when MTM was installed in June. With mass production now underway, the vehicle will arrive at dealerships in October.
