MG launches the standard ZS EV range

MG Motor UK has expanded the ZS EV range with a new Standard Range version.

It follows the launch of a Long Range model in November, as part of a facelift of the electric SUV.

Prices for the new variant start at £27,495 (on the road) including the government subsidy, around £2,000 less than the Long Range.

Standard Range versions have a 51.1 kWh battery, offering a range of 198 miles. Thanks to a 100 kW fast charger, the Standard Range versions can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 36 minutes.

The engine powering the Standard and Long Range versions of the new MG ZS EV is the same, but due to the different operating voltage of the different battery sizes, the Standard Range versions have a higher equivalent power output of 176 hp.

The standard ZS EV range can be specified in the same newly introduced trim levels as the Long Range cars: SE, Trophy and Trophy Connect. The equipment levels are identical regardless of the battery size chosen by the customer.

The entry-level SE comes with automatic climate control, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, charge-to-car charging, parking camera at 360 degrees, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation and multiple USB charging points.

The Trophy model (£29,995) adds a panoramic ‘Sky Roof’ and leather seats, plus roof rails, heated front seats, power driver’s seat adjustment, rain sensing wipers and wireless phone charging.

Top-end Trophy Connect (£30,495) adds iSMART with live services (weather, traffic and Amazon Prime).

The first deliveries of Standard Range cars are expected to arrive at UK dealerships this month.

MG Motor UK Commercial Director Guy Pigounakis said: “MG is already the go-to choice for customers looking to buy high-quality, well-equipped and great value electric cars, but the new ZS EV standard range takes this offering to new levels.

“The Plug-in Car Grant may have been reduced, but MG’s commitment to delivering great value, world-class electric vehicles certainly has not – the ZS EV offers spec, range and unmatched performance for the price.”

MG was one of the biggest gainers in new car registration volume in 2021, in a market reported to be down 1% by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The brand’s ascent continued last year with a 66.2% increase in registrations (to 30,600) after adding the flagship HS SUV and MG5 SW electric station wagon to its range in 2021 and significantly expanding its retail network. UK, including three plug-in cars – the new MG ZS EV, MG5 EV Estate and MG HS Plug-in Hybrid – all of which come with a seven-year warranty.
